Without having any true experience in it, I can see that fishing is an intricate and delicate process.
I speculate, the techniques and strategies used *must* affect one's ability to catch successfully with consistency, especially when taking into consideration the older technologies used for fishing like nets, poles and lines, etc.
There's patience involved and a knowing that you may catch many and you may catch none–on any given excursion.
I can only imagine, that not being able to see the target with your eyes or feel it with your hands as you pursue it, not only adds to the importance of having all things set up well but also stirs up the focus needed to do it with no shortcuts, for fear of wasting precious time and resources.
As a layman, I can only suppose upon this process.
And then apply it to Jesus' words, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of people."
With all the intricacies dependent on the decisions of the fisherman, what is Christ proposing with this then, new aged concept? God pursuing people rather than people pursing God? What does it mean to fish for people? How do we position ourselves well to be successful at the task? When we implement newer technologies, what are the drawbacks of the catch? What would cause least disruption in the ecosystem and what would it mean to over-fish the waters? Is the catch dependent on our dedication to due process? If it is how do we maintain such a thing with farther reaching consequences than fishing for fish?
My speculation ends with the truth that only true and deep dependency on the one making the call can accomplish a successful haul. True dependency requires deep soul care. He's is willing and has come to make us fishers of people. Will you be his initial catch?
